A report commissioned by household goods retailer Dunelm found that a third of pet owners let their furry friends sleep 43% of pet owners let their animals sleep next to them even though they insisted they wouldn’t when they first got them.
Women had the strongest opinion that their pet shouldn’t sleep with them, but when it came to looking into those big puppy eyes before bed, they were also the quickest to change their minds and let their pet cuddle.
The Home Truths Report surveyed 2,500 people in the UK about their habits and their homes and found that an overwhelming majority, when choosing the one thing that made us enjoy our home, by far preferred their pet (32%) to anything else including items like televisions or nice things like art.
When asked “What do you enjoy most about your home?”, Respondents also stated that it was about their loved ones, pets or family photos, while others used their comfortable sofa or bed, upholstered furniture such as throws and pillows and candles all the difference.
The Home Truths Report confirmed that many of us might think we’re alone when we have some weird quirks, but it seems we probably have a lot more in common than we think. For example, almost a quarter of us (23%) leave the door open when we go to the bathroom, 60% of us eat while watching TV, and 38% of us sleep naked.
What causes the most disputes in the house? The TV remote, our kids, and getting out of the toilet seat all come neck to neck, but what we argue about the most is the temperature of the central heating (17%). Some people said the thickness of their bedspreads was a matter of debate, while putting items back in closets and too much screen time were also cited.
Cleaning can also be a point of contention between families, but it can be good for them to know they are not alone if they don’t keep track of things.
When it comes to cleaning, it seems like Ms. Hinch and more time at home keep us all busy. 60.5% of those surveyed have cleaned the dreaded oven in the past three months.
The Home Truths Report also exposed our bed-making rituals. According to the survey, one in ten respondents admitted that they only changed their beds once, while beds are usually changed once a week (41%) or every two weeks (37%) for a month, while some said they only did “if they remembered”.
Even when it comes to loading the dishwasher at home, we don’t always get it right. 29% of perfectionists admit that they will reload the dishwasher if they think a member of the household did it wrong.
Jemma Williams, Director of Branding and Marketing at Dunelm, said, “We know you know that home is not all bricks, mortar and beautiful moments. Our differences can help us create our utterly imperfect homes with the people we love. Comfortable, content, chaotic and brilliant. We loved hearing these insights that gave us a window into people’s homes. In these difficult times, home is the best feeling in the world. “
