Hocus Pocus 2, the sequel to the fictional comedy film form 1993 is in development at Disney+. However, Kenny Ortega, the original director of the film is not involved in the making. The first Hocus Pocus movie was about three switched resurrecting after 300 years who then were stopped by three children, of course with some help. Now, after 27 years, Disney has decided to make a sequel of the film being directed by Adam Shankman.
As much as we would love for the original cast members, Bette, Sarah, and Kathy to return, they haven’t been officially confirmed to return. Nevertheless, there have been hints of their return.
It was reported that the writer Jen D’Angelo has been tasked with somehow bringing the original withes into the movie. Sources say that Bette Midler, Sarah Parker, and Kathy Najimy could be reprising their roles in the new plot.
Some expected it to be a reboot of the original movie but that won’t be happening. Instead, it would be somewhat of a delayed sequel. If you remember the last movie, there we saw Winnie’s spellbook opening its eye indicating that it is still alive. So, the sequel could continue with that and perhaps follow a road to the redemption of the witches. Well, if I was the writer then I would have written it this way.
On being asked about playing their roles in the sequel, Midler and Najimy both appeared excited. Midler jokingly said that she hopes Disney reaches her before she is a corpse. However, Najimy has a stronger preference for a cameo. Well, that could make sense as well in the plot.
Another big name from the previous movie in the talks is Doug Jones. He played Billy Butcherson in the original movie. He said that he is ready for the sequel. The only thing remaining is Disney giving him a call.
